Wavell Road,

Zouch Academy - High standards, even higher expectations

Newsflash: Our current value is Happiness

Principal’s Welcome

A very warm welcome to Zouch Academy. We are now in our final term of the academic year and what an exciting and busy year it has been for all of us.
The school has continued to grow in numbers and we are all very proud of the way our children welcome new friends and help to settle them in to learn the Zouch routines.

It has been an absolute pleasure to spend time in the classrooms to watch our children so engaged with their learning and for dynamic, creative lessons being delivered to the children on a daily basis. Due to the excellent teaching and the superb learning behaviors of the children, good progress is being made in all areas of the school.  In Key data areas, such as the Early Years, Y1 (phonics), Y2 and Y6 our predictions for results should meet or exceed national expectations.

We are also very proud of being a values based school, where core values are at the heart of everything we do here at Zouch and across The White Horse Federation. I would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful children who are currently showing our current value of ‘co-operation’, the children recently took part in a sponsored run to raise money for a worthwhile charity ‘Running Dangerously’. The children showed all of their values of love, kindness, understanding, caring and friendship when they discussed the importance of completing this run to help other children less fortunate than themselves.

The children have engaged with some wonderful topics this year, some amazing trips and visits in school to enhance their learning experiences. At Zouch Academy, we pride ourselves on giving the children an enriched curriculum which will ignite curiosity and give our children an exciting invitation to learn. In the Early Years this term the children’s topic is ‘Ready, Steady Go’. The children in Reception will be taking their teddy bear to the Watercress Line for a ride on a steam train. The Children in Key Stage 1’s topic is ‘Go Wild’ and the children in years one and two will be visiting Longleat Safari Park for their fabulous finish to their learning. Lower Key Stage 2 are learning all about ‘Greece’ and they all started this topic with an amazing Toga party. Upper Key Stage 2 children are learning about ‘Extreme Environments’ and they will be visiting Intech science museum during term 6.We understand and respect that children enjoy different subjects and learn at different stages. By ensuring the children are taught a purposeful curriculum we allow all children to flourish in an area of learning they are confident with. Therefore, children across the school will continue to have Computing, Music, PE and French taught by specialists. A new curriculum enrichment, which we are now providing our children with, is ‘Forest Schools’. This will give the children the opportunity to learn about their outdoor environment and help to develop lots of different skills. The skills which the children will experience are team building and working collaboratively, self-awareness, intrinsic motivation, empathy, independence, good social communication skills and a positive mental attitude. The dance lessons delivered by ‘Showoff Dance’, and the PE lessons taught by Mr Welch and Chelsea Football coaches continue to be a real strength in the school. The work delivered by Skillforce for our current Y5 children has also helped the pupils to become resilient, robust and reflective individuals. The quality work from all of the individuals is received well by the children and it is warming to continuously have compliments from our staff and visitors about the outstanding behavior of our children.

Please remember we have an open door policy and all of the staff here at Zouch will be more than happy to discuss your children with you. I would like to thank the parents who are always supportive of the school and have written so many positive comments on the local site when parents new to the area have asked what Zouch Academy is like. We have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback and also on our Zouch Facebook page.
