Wavell Road,

Zouch Academy - High standards, even higher expectations

Newsflash: Our current value is freedom

Principal’s Welcome

A very warm welcome to Zouch Academy, I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer making lots of happy memories!
We have had an excellent start to our new school year and we are absolutely delighted to welcome so many new families and children to Zouch. We have had approximately ninety new children join the school since last September and in some year groups we are now full.

Our new staff have also settled in well and it feels like they have always been part of our school team. We are extremely proud of our end of year 2017 results as they were excellent in every area of the school. In Key data areas, such as the Early Years, Y1 (phonics), Y2 and Y6 our results met or exceeded the national expectations. This means that children can embrace the new school year equipped with the skills they need to help them to be a successful learner.

We are also very proud of being a values based school, where core values are at the heart of everything we do here at Zouch and across The White Horse Federation. I would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful children who were with us last academic year, as they have demonstrated using their values to be a good friend, being caring and loving to the new children in their classes.
Our value this term is ‘trust’ and we will have a particular focus in assembly and in classrooms on the principle of trust and how we can demonstrate this value both at school and at home.

Term one is exciting for all of us here as I step into my new role as Principal stepping up from Acting Principal, which I have done since last Easter. Mr Williams has started in his new role as Assistant Principal and Mrs Kinderman in her new role as the EYFS Lead. This will be my twelfth year at Zouch so I have a good understanding of the school, its background and its successful journey of becoming an Academy and to being a ‘good’ school again.

The new topics across the school have been launched with some super hooks for learning. The Early Years children will be learning ‘All About Me’ as they settle into school life and learn the new routines and structures. Year one and two children will be learning all about space and the first moon landing during their topic called ‘Blast Off’ and the pupils are fortunate to have creative role play areas which engage the younger children with their learning. Years three and four children are learning about ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ and they will be learning to create cave paintings. These children will also be going on a trip to a local, historical site, which will help inspire and enthuse the children’s learning. Our eldest children in year five and six are also learning about ‘Space’ but at much greater depth than the younger children. To launch the topic the children will experience a visit from the space dome where they will imagine that they’re in space and learn interesting facts about our planets and solar system.

We are very proud of the enriched curriculum we offer our children here at Zouch. We understand and respect that children enjoy different subjects and learn at different stages. By ensuring the children are taught a purposeful curriculum we allow all children to flourish in an area of learning they are confident with. Therefore, children across the school will continue to have Computing, Music, PE and French taught by specialists. A new curriculum enrichment, which we are now providing our children with, is ‘Forest Schools’. This will give the children the opportunity to learn about their outdoor environment and help to develop lots of different skills. The skills which the children will experience are team building and working collaboratively, self-awareness, intrinsic motivation, empathy, independence, good social communication skills and a positive mental attitude.

Please remember we have an open door policy and all of the staff here at Zouch will be more than happy to discuss your children with you. I would like to thank the parents who have been supportive of the school and have written so many positive comments on the local site when parents new to the area have asked what Zouch Academy is like. We have been overwhelmed with the positive feedback.

Please continue to look on our twitter account to see all of the fabulous learning your children will be doing this term. You can follow us on twitter @Zouch Academy. Click here to read our latest Newsletter.

If you do have any questions or queries then please do pop into our school office where our staff will be happy to help you.

Thank you for your continuing support
