Our school is delighted to be taking part in the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge for 2019.
In the challenge, children are encouraged to read six or more library books during the summer holidays and receive rewards along the way. Children can sign up at their local Wiltshire library from Saturday 13th July. It’s absolutely free and lasts until 7th September.
The theme of this year’s reading challenge is Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
As pupils read library books, they will solve clues and collect special stickers to complete their mission folder and help super space family the Rockets track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens! The children will also receive a special Space Chase wristband when they reach their fourth book, and a medal and certificate upon completion of the challenge.
A dedicated website has been set up for children taking part in the challenge at: www.spacechase.org.uk — there, children can keep track of their progress, take part in games and competitions, and decide what to read next using the book sorter.
To take part in the competition, children will need a library to borrow books. If they don’t already have one, to join the library children must have an adult guarantor. For more information, contact your local library or visit: www.wiltshire.gov.uk/libraries
